the missing tooth

yes, lela has lost yet another tooth but unlike the others this one has gone missing. she was eating chex mix with lacey when all of a sudden she notice that something wasn't right...her tooth was gone. she couldn't figure out what happened and then came to the conclusion she swallowed it. she wrote a letter to the tooth fairy explaining that she thought she swallowed her tooth and would she please leave her some money anyways even though there was no tooth. i'll tell you that tooth fairy is something else she did it! hey, you think if i write her she'll leave me some money, too?

even after 20 years

since graduating from high school a lot people never change, I've decided.

kevin's reunion was interesting to say the least. i actually had a good time even though i headed up to our room somewhere after 11:00 pm. from what i was told the party hadn't even started at that point. for me it had! i go to bed somewhere between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm on a daily basis, so 11:00 for me was extremely late.

i'm glad we went despite i only knew a handful of people. it's interesting to hear what others are doing, how they look, where they live, etc. i always find it fascinating to hear other people's stories and how they got to where they are now. you know that's what life is about...it's a journey.

i can't wait for the next reunion to see where these same people are and what they are doing next.

parrrrrttttty!

yes, we had a party this morning at jumpin' jellybeans for lacey. finally, she had a real birthday party with her buddies. she was so excited! and boy did she have a blast! i'm exhausted as i'm writing and so wishing for a nap. the house is completely quiet. the girls went to aunt kim's straight after the party, so i truly wish i could take advantage of the fact we have a house with no children. but as you might have guessed there is always something going on and today is no exception. later this evening, we are headed to kevin's 20th high school reunion. yippee! (yes, that is sarcasm you sense.) i'm sure it will be fun, well at least from the perspective that i'm sure i'll have something to blog about tomorrow. i always enjoy that....

i'm still laughing.

every time i start thinking about lacey i can't help but laugh. today at school they did a picture entitled "happy tooth." on the paper she had to cut out the shape of a tooth and then she was suppose to decorate the tooth with "stuff" that was good for your teeth from magazines. her teachers had warned me that i was gonna die laughing when i saw her page. she had decorated it with a "surprise." little did i realize what was in store for me....i open up her page to find two separate pictures of...yes, maxi pads? now how funny is that!

what a day already

and its not even 7:00 am.

yes, i so learned my lesson yesterday. i guess you could say the hard way so to speak. i took lacey to the doctor for her well check appointment. she was such a trooper, and i'm so proud of her. not only did she have to get four separate shots i also had them throw in a flu vaccination as well, which ended up being five pokes in the legs. yes, i'm a horrible mom and i will never ever do that again to anyone.

sometime last night poor little thing started to run a fever and began throwing up. she was so good about it and seemed to handle it in stride. (lela on the other hand that would have been a totally different story all together.) it broke my heart and i couldn't help but wonder if i had done it to her with all those shots.

as i'm typing she is sleeping and appears to have no fever at the moment. i'm going with the assumption that having all those viruses injected into your body probably would cause some type of reaction. and considering she has never had a flu shot in her life....hum? i just have to wonder?

happy 9th anniversary

yes, today is mine and kevin's anniversary - nine years to be exact. i truly can't believe it! i so wish i could tell you that we had this wonderful romantic get-away planned, but come on that only happens in the movies, right? well, at least for me it does anyways. no, today will be spent taking lacey to the doctor for her well check visit and then the girls have choir tonight along with wednesday night supper. yes, it's basically a typical day around the daniell house.

lacey was suppose to have her well check visit last week, but somehow there was a miscommunication between me and the doctor's office. i thought they told me one time when in actuality they told me another. so, they ended up cancelling my appointment. when i went reschedule this was the first available day and i jumped at it. i so wanted to get it over with because from what i can remember lacey will probably be getting about three/four shots this morning. you know that will make for a great day! not! i so have a feeling its gonna be a long day...

checking in...

thought i would check in with everyone. sorry i've been a little delinquent with my posting this week. i've been a little busy at the preschool with the fall consignment sale. we have a consignment sale twice a year - once in the fall and then again in the spring. it's definitely hard work but its very rewarding for the school, the church and the community. i feel very blessed to be such a group of hard working moms. but considering i was up there four out of five days, my week was pretty much shot before it even got going good.

lela's school celebrated grandparents' week this week. all the grandparents were invited to come have lunch with their grandchildren. it was pretty special i thought. i attended a few of the lunches making my pictures for the yearbook. one little girl had the pleasure of having her mother, grandfather and great grandmother all there. how cool was that - three generations of family!

i always thought the bigger the girls got the less busy i would be. boy, was i wrong! it seems everytime i turn around i've gotten myself into something else. next week i'll spend three
days at lela's school helping her teacher as well as the art teacher. today, we are all going to the sharpsburg festival to help the pta booth sell discount cards and spiritwear. i'm just hoping the rain holds off till where done this afternoon.

lela's new smile

this week has already been an exciting week! on sunday, while we were in target lela lost her first tooth on top. then on yesterday afternoon she lost the one beside it. she looks so cute with no front teeth. i love hearing her talk. it's so precious! there is a picture of me in the yearbook when i was in second grade with no front teeth and i absolutely hate it! but if it wasn't for that picture i probably wouldn't have any record of me with no front teeth. so, yesterday i made lela smile for me so i could show you how cute she looks even with no teeth.

there is quite a funny story to tell involving the first top tooth that was lost on sunday. she actually bit into a hot dog that she was sharing with her daddy and the tooth came out. kevin and lela both thought she had swallowed it because they couldn't find it. wrong! kevin then took a bite of hot dog only to discover the tooth in his bite of hot dog. gross. he was eating lela's tooth. yuck! glad i missed it!

what have we gotten ourselves into now?

a few weeks ago kevin and i were approached at church about being confirmation counselors for the upcoming year. (i'm still trying to find out who thought we would be good at this.) it was a big decision that required a huge committment on our part. so, a lot of prayer went into our decision when we agreed to become counselors for the upcoming year. i must say that i'm so excited for these kids and their journey that lies ahead for them. from what we have been told and some of the stuff i've been reading we are all in for a treat. i'm especially excited because one of the participants this year who is my nephew, sam.

for those of you who are not methodists, you my be asking yourself what is confirmation? confirmation in the methodist church is "the decision a person makes to respond to god's grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation." it is during this time that the confirmands will learn about various aspects of the christain church and the history and teachings of the united methodist church. it is a 26 week long "class" in which if you miss more than 4 classes you can no longer participate. it is a serious, but fun adventure for everyone involved.

it's so funny because when i went through confirmation it was so different way back then. i met with our preacher for 4 weeks and he talked to me about what the church was and the different aspects of the methodist church. i will honest say that when i did profess my faith at the age of 12 i had no idea what i was saying. today, that is a totally different story with all the ups and downs i've endured. i truly know now that god was and continues to be with me every step of the way. i have seen him do miracles and i truly know that he exists.

what our intention as confirmation counselors is to guide these youth through their own journeys with christ. we are here to make religion and the whole experience fun for them. as of right now kevin and i are in the process of gathering "supplies" for our journey ahead. i so can't wait to see what lies ahead. stay tuned!!!

two little flower girls

our precious girls were in my cousin spencer's wedding this weekend. talk about tired! it has been so long since we've had any weddings i forgot how much it wears you out. the girls had a really good time being part of the wedding party and i think they really like all the attention they were receiving. i had fun taking pictures, it definitely gave me an opportunity to practice and have some fun with my camera as well. here is just a sampling from our day:

childhood memories at granny's & grandaddy's

one of my fondest memories growing up was going to spend the night at my granny's house. i would wake the up the next morning to the smell and sounds of a true homemade breakfast. i was telling the girls about how granny use to make the best breakfast in the world - home made biscuits, fresh orange juice, crisp bacon, scrambled eggs and grits with a pat of butter! yum! i can close my eyes and see and smell those wonderful aromas floating through the air. gosh how i miss those days! as i was telling the girls about breakfast at granny's, lacey made the comment, "well, gigi doesn't do that for us!" lela as if on cue replied, "no all we get is waffles!" (frozen ones at that) i couldn't help but laugh.

so, being the mom that i am decided that i would try my hand at biscuits that next day. i have a rolling pin that belonged to my great-grandmother (named Lela). i like to think it has magic powers that would make my biscuits just as good as the ones i remembered growing up. after slaving over a hot oven that morning for about an hour, my biscuits emerged from the oven. they looked pretty good and tasted good, but they just weren't granny's. i've decided there is an art to biscuit making and i'm now on a quest to discover the the lost art of making homemade biscuits.

it's that time of year again

mounds and mounds of clothes are surrounding me at the moment. it's that time of year again, when i gear myself up to wash, iron, hang and tag clothes for the preschool's fall consignment sale. this time around i'm a little behind. why? good question other than i just can't seem to get myself motivated to do it. it's such a time consuming project and with lela being sick this week, i have so many other things i need to be doing. right now my bedroom looks as if a bomb went off in it - clothes everywhere, hangers laying in the floor and the iron plugged in ready to go. i'm being extremely ambitious because i so would love to knock it all out...tonight. i guess i'm probably gonna have to if i want to find the bed, uh?

oink, oink

yes, the h1n1 flu better known as the swine flu has seemed to have found itself into our house. lela has not been formally diagnosed with it, but after talking on the phone to the doctor's office that is the diagnoses we've been given. trust me when i say its not as scary as the media makes it out to be. now granted this is coming from a mom with two healthy children. (honestly i can probably can count one hand the number of times our girls have gotten sick.) her symptoms have been a fever which has been running from anywhere between 101-102 degrees, stomach pains and a headache that she describes as her "brain is about to explode." what's so ironic is that just a few weeks ago i told kevin that if the swine flu came into the house you could just about guarantee i would get it especially because lacey loves cuddling with mommy...oh well i guess time with tell.

look it's a bird, it's a plane...nope it's the

international spacestation and space shuttle.

at around 8:50 pm last night, we headed outside in the crisp darkness to see if we could possibly see the spacestation and the space shuttle. kevin had read in the paper earlier that we would be able to see them at about 8:50 pm coming from a southwest direction. the four of us gathered in the cul-de-sac and began looking up in the sky not really knowing what to expect. the only thing we knew was it would look like a bright star moving northward. all of a sudden out of nowhere we saw a bright looking star moving across the sky in a northwest direction just as the paper described. we all got excited as we watched it travel across the sky. it was just so neat thinking here we were standing on earth watching something that was in outer space with people on it! i guess kind of like looking at an airplane and wondering where are those people going, but only this time they're a little further away.

"this town is just crazy!"

were the exact words lela uttered as we came off the marta train and up onto the street covered with dragon-con participants. this is something i've always wanted to do is see the dragon-con parade and this morning it finally happened! talk about fun! it was a blast! i honestly felt like i lived in a different world. despite the fact we had a slight little drizzle of rain right before the start of the parade the weather ended up being very nice and cool. in fact at one point i thought to myself i needed a light jacket. we saw everything - harry potter, darth vader, stormtroopers, jedi knights, faeries, superman, batman, batgirl, creatures from the nether world, pirates and the list goes on and on.

if i ever participated in anything like that, i decided that the two things i would love to dress up as 1. stormtrooper from the orginial star wars (hum, i wonder where i could find one) and 2. batgirl. i can remember as a little girl watching batman with adam west and dreaming of being batgirl riding around on her purple motorcycle fighting alongside the cape crusader and the boy wonder. ah, those were the days!

it was just so funny seeing all those people dressed up. one group in the parade which just cracked me up was a group that had signs hanging around their necks with different initals such as Na - sodium, H - helium, and O - oxygen. they were representing the periodic table of elements. i had to laugh because who in the world would come up with an idea like that? a few thoughts came to mind, but i won't say because yes, at one point in my life i did consider majoring in chemistry...briefly.

i will say that if you want some free entertainment, definitely checkout the dragon-con parade. it is definitely worth it!!!! you'll see it all.

lacey's first day of school

yes, finally lacey started school yesterday. yeah!!! i'm so excited. she has been bored for weeks now with lela being in school. every morning around 10:00 she asks if we can go get lela. now around 10:00, she will be her friends playing and having a good time instead of whining that she wants her sister. i have so much stuff i want/need to do now that everyone is gone. i honestly just wonder how much i will get done.

as you can tell there are no pictures from lacey's first day of school. why? i did try. these days everytime i pull my camera out she hides her face refusing to a have her picture made....oh well. when we got home i asked her about her day only to be told that her and Madeline were the only kids at school, everyone else was sick and they would be back next week. do you think that's her way of saying, "hey mom! don't ask me about my friends or who i played with until next week?" i just have to laugh. i will say that is one thing about our girls they don't ever divulge too much information...well not the stuff you want to know anyways.
