what have we gotten ourselves into now?

a few weeks ago kevin and i were approached at church about being confirmation counselors for the upcoming year. (i'm still trying to find out who thought we would be good at this.) it was a big decision that required a huge committment on our part. so, a lot of prayer went into our decision when we agreed to become counselors for the upcoming year. i must say that i'm so excited for these kids and their journey that lies ahead for them. from what we have been told and some of the stuff i've been reading we are all in for a treat. i'm especially excited because one of the participants this year who is my nephew, sam.

for those of you who are not methodists, you my be asking yourself what is confirmation? confirmation in the methodist church is "the decision a person makes to respond to god's grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation." it is during this time that the confirmands will learn about various aspects of the christain church and the history and teachings of the united methodist church. it is a 26 week long "class" in which if you miss more than 4 classes you can no longer participate. it is a serious, but fun adventure for everyone involved.

it's so funny because when i went through confirmation it was so different way back then. i met with our preacher for 4 weeks and he talked to me about what the church was and the different aspects of the methodist church. i will honest say that when i did profess my faith at the age of 12 i had no idea what i was saying. today, that is a totally different story with all the ups and downs i've endured. i truly know now that god was and continues to be with me every step of the way. i have seen him do miracles and i truly know that he exists.

what our intention as confirmation counselors is to guide these youth through their own journeys with christ. we are here to make religion and the whole experience fun for them. as of right now kevin and i are in the process of gathering "supplies" for our journey ahead. i so can't wait to see what lies ahead. stay tuned!!!
