one of my fondest memories growing up was going to spend the night at my granny's house. i would wake the up the next morning to the smell and sounds of a true homemade breakfast. i was telling the girls about how granny use to make the best breakfast in the world - home made biscuits, fresh orange juice, crisp bacon, scrambled eggs and grits with a pat of butter! yum! i can close my eyes and see and smell those wonderful aromas floating through the air. gosh how i miss those days! as i was telling the girls about breakfast at granny's, lacey made the comment, "well, gigi doesn't do that for us!" lela as if on cue replied, "no all we get is waffles!" (frozen ones at that) i couldn't help but laugh.
so, being the mom that i am decided that i would try my hand at biscuits that next day. i have a rolling pin that belonged to my great-grandmother (named Lela). i like to think it has magic powers that would make my biscuits just as good as the ones i remembered growing up. after slaving over a hot oven that morning for about an hour, my biscuits emerged from the oven. they looked pretty good and tasted good, but they just weren't granny's. i've decided there is an art to biscuit making and i'm now on a quest to discover the the lost art of making homemade biscuits.
