i love reading! to me its a guilty pleasure and one that i don't get to partake in much especially since having kids, but that is something i'm trying to change. i just finished an awesome book called a walk with christ to the cross: the last fourteen hours of his earthly mission by dawson mcallister. talk about a good book! i really had a hard time putting it down. it was very eye opening reading about the last few hours of christ's life and what to it means to our lives as christians. the true sacrifice he made for us in order that we would have life eternal is just mind blowing. there were so many aspects that were made aware to me that i honestly must say i have taken a lot for granted and that is something that i'm definitely trying to change on so many levels.

our poor baby
seems to be sick and its breaking my heart. i keep thinking why of all the weekends do we have to get sick? yesterday afternoon, she started complaining of her head hurting and then last night the fever sat in. we are home this morning, missing her school halloween party and tricking or treating around the square. it makes me so sad that she is having to miss all the fun! poor lacey. i'm so hoping that its nothing but in the back of my head i have feeling we might just have h1n1. she has already been immunized for the flu, so i don't think that could be it but not the
h1n1. i'm especially worried about tomorrow night when everyone goes out trick or treating and not her. how do you explain to a four year old that you have stay home and get better...this will interesting?

it's that time of year again
when we get to see the halloween dance that lela's class has been working on. they wear their halloween costumes and then put on a little dance for us. it's so much fun and they are all so cute! this year they danced to the "monster mash." also, we just found out that lela's class this year for the spring recital will be "rockers." they are all so excited about it!

it just amazes me
watching lela at gymnastics. she is truly in her own when she is at the gym. yesterday, i decided to stand at the window and watch. (it had been a few weeks, since the last time.) talk about making progress. you could so see it. she was doing back walkovers and working on back handsprings. i'm just in awe plain and simple. i can't but help smile to myself thinking "hey that's my daughter!"
they have this rope that hangs from the ceiling. they climb up it and then fall into this pit of foam. the purpose i suppose is to build upper body strength. i can promise you that when i was six this is something i could never do! not, lela. she climbs on and starts moving her way up the rope to the top. i just want to know how in the world do you that?
it's funny because when lela told us she wanted to do gymnastics i was a little unsure. i was a dancer growing up and to this day that is my thing. i so wanted our little girls do that very same thing. one day it dawned me that they are their persons with their own likes and dislikes. i'm glad we decided to let her try it. she truly enjoys it and its obvious she does. talk about a natural ability, you can see it. she started in june only being able to do a cartwheel. she is now doing cartwheels off the beam, back walkovers, back handsprings and round offs. this spring will be interesting to she what she has learned. the girls will put on a "little recital" showcasing their abilities. i truly can't wait!

trying to get back in the swing of things
is exactly what i'm trying to do. it's been an uphill battle for me since i came down with the flu. as of today, i'm still suffering from a horrible cough that i can't seem to get rid of. i've been on a z-pack for five days and a steroid with not much improvement. kevin would tell you that half my problem is that i'm not properly resting. you know, he is probably right!
i spent most of last week at lela's school helping set up the book fair, taking pictures of red ribbon week and helping out in the classroom. i have actually surprised myself with how much i have had going on these days. between getting ready for lacey's fall festival at her school and just my weekly helping out in lela's classroom i feel torn in half a different directions. i swear i think that is one of the requirements of being a mom.
i keep hoping that things would slow down a bit, but then again do they ever? i honestly think that life is a roller coaster with its ups and downs, surprises and turns, personally you just never know what is coming next....all i've got to say is "hang on!"

will i ever be well, again?
if you can believe it i'm still sick. not with the flu but with sometype of upper resporiatory infection, i think. i have this lovely cough i can't seem to shake. why me? i swear it always seems to be something, uh? i keep putting off going to the doctor, but i think today i'm finally gonna give in and call. i hate going to the doctor's office...all those sick people. ha, and i'm one of them.

live and learn - that's my motto
and yes, i paid dearly last night for it.
we took the girls to the fair in 50 something degree weather yesterday evening. we had a really good time despite me coughing my head off and still not quite at 100%. the girls were dying for me to go the fair with them. earlier in the week their daddy had taken them as a surprise and now they wanted to me to have as much fun as they did. what sweet girls!
it was fun! i realized one thing that i'm getting too old to ride rides like the "drunken barrels" you find at six flags. we all rode these strawberries which you spin around and around and then the whole entire ride spins again like those barrels. it was probably about half way through the ride, all of a sudden a wave of nausea came over me. i told the girls they had to stop spinning the strawberry and announced to them and kevin i literally thought i was about to get sick on the ride. the girls got all worried and kevin calmed them down with the fact that i had been sick for about a week and i was still trying to get better. personally, i think it was just old age.
i love watching our girls have such a good time at the fair. it brings so much joy to my life to see them laughing, smiling and screaming as they ride such rides as the wacky worm roller coaster, ferris wheel and the giant slide. ah! the longer we were there the more obvious it became to me that i wasn't the perfect of health. in fact i probably wasn't even better, yet. why? because when we got home and i finally got ready for bed, guess what? fever was back...again! like i said live and learn.
and my favorite picture of the evening....you can just see her excitement and hear her little scream, i love it!

i'm alive...barely
yes, after five days of basically lying in the bed i think i have about kick this flu stuff with the exception of a horrible cough and not much energy i'm back. i'm just now praying that no one else in the house gets it. lacey and kevin both have had a flu shot, but not poor lela. (so, i have to get on that asap.) i was planning on us going to the health department this week to get the flu mist for the h1n1 when i got sick. funny how things work, uh? depending on how i'm feeling that might be in the cards for next week.
it's so nice to be up and not feel as if my head is going to explode! kevin is such an awesome husband and dad. how god blessed me with such a wonderful man is beyond any comprehension i could ever have. he has worked from home this week, looking after me and juggling the taking of girls from school to gymnastics to choir to dance. thank you honey! i love you! you are the best!

it's my turn now
it appears that i have finally gotten the flu. yesterday afternoon, i started coming down with a dry cough and then this morning i woke up to a horrible headache and now a fever. i'm just praying this goes away quickly i have so many things to do and being sick is so not on my agenda. i'm struggling with my body wanting to rest while there is this part of me that keeps thinking that if i can just push threw i'll be ok. i'm not a good patient and rest is what i need. i'm now just praying for a fast recovery.

"i wanna watch a baby show!"
yes, those are the exact words i keep hearing from lacey these days. all of a sudden she is obsessed with watching discovery health channel and anything having to do with the birth of babies. i can not for the life of me figure it out. she becomes mesmerized watching babies being born and all the stuff surrounding the birth of a baby. i particularly have no desire to see all the blood, but for some reason lacey is not at all bothered by it. go figure? i asked her the other day if she was gonna be a baby doctor or baby nurse and she said, "no, i just want puppies!"

am i on survivor?
well...not exactly but that's what went through my head a couple of times as we made our way to the len foote hike inn at amicalola falls. we had great time! we hiked 5 miles up in 2 hours and 20 minutes and around 2 hours coming back down. coming back down was a little tricky do to the fact it was raining and the ground was pretty soaked. lots of slippery leaves and rocks to maneuver around.
talk about a cool little inn, that's exactly what i thought about it! it was built in 1998 definitely ahead of its time because its "green" if you know what i mean. very eco-friendly from the design of the inn to the bath house to the sleeping quarters all the way to the way the food was served.
my favorite thing they told us was if you put any food on your plate you needed to eat it. waste not want not! what they would do is after breakfast or dinner, any food left on your plate was scraped into a bowl and weighed. if there was more than 5ozs. a frowny face was written on the board; if there was less than 5 ozs. a happy face. the goal obviously was a happy face! last night at dinner, we got a frowny face. we were not happy and decided that one of the little boys refused to eat his vegetables...gee thanks. this morning, we were very afraid the same thing was going to happen, but surprisely enough we got a happy face...yeah!
i was really sorry that our stay was a quick one, but reality was calling. wendy wanted us all to do this for her 35th birthday and i feel very privileged to have been apart of it. i will say that for being 38 years of age i feel really good! maybe this needs to be a yearly trip, that way we can gauge how are bodies are aging? hum? maybe i need to rethink that one?
if you would like read more, check out wendy's blog - the fox family.

finally....it's friday!
yeah! i'm so glad it's friday. talk about a long week. the weather is actually starting to feel like fall and there are some signs of the leaves starting to turn. kevin is gearing up for his first georgia football game of the season tomorrow in athens and i'm heading to my fall jazzercise district meeting. woo hoo! i so hate meetings! especially ones that last all day long which this will mostly definitely will and does. the girls will be leaving in a little while to head up to mom's to spend the night, so she can watch the girls for me tomorrow.
my weekend is pretty jammed packed because come sunday morning i'm leaving to go on an overnight hiking trip to the len foote hike inn in north georgia. i'm so excited to be going with some close friends of mine and to have the opportunity to just commune with nature. it's a much need break from the hustle and bustle even though it will be a quick one at that. i just bought this awesome book, so i'm hoping a for a little down to enjoy myself and catch up on some reading.
hope you have a great weekend!!!

the magician is coming...

the magician is coming, that's all I heard yesterday at church from the kids in choir and i couldn't help but laugh.
the magician was none other than ken scott and he was coming to perform for our wednesday night program at church last night. the reason i tell you all this is well...i've known ken scott since elementary school. i didn't know him as ken scott, but ken wisenbaker. i can remember being in third grade and ken would practice his magic for the class doing card tricks and the metal rings you hook together. i think its so cool that he is doing magic for a living. to be so lucky to find your calling in life what a blessing!
before his show, we caught up talking about our high school reunion this past summer and what we had been doing. he had just gotten back from a cruise where he was entertainment on board...how cool is that! i mentioned that his daughter was in lela's class and she was excited that he was there at church to perform. we even laughed because a few of the girls were saying, "last time he had on a red shirt and this time he has on yellow shirt" and "oh, he's so strong!" we were cracking up.
he started his show and as usual we all loved it! ken is such a great entertainer and is definitely at home in front of an audience. it's just funny to me because i still remember us as being kids and forever will put ken in that place. my girls among others grabbed the paper placemats off the tables and proceeded to get his autograph? uh? well, i've got his autograph, too girls. it's just in my yearbooks from about 20 years ago or more....
